Plans approved: Thornbridge and Pivovar will open the Birmingham Tap this autumn

Thornbridge Brewery and craft beer wholesaler Pivovar have had plans to transform a former branch of Lloyds Bank in Birmingham into their first joint venue approved.

As announced in December 2017, Thornbridge and Pivovar have joined forces to open 10 new pub sites across the country in the next five years.

The first of these, the Birmingham Tap, will open in the heart of Birmingham city centre in Autumn 2018 on the site of a former branch of Lloyds Bank.

The site’s offering will revolve around a strong draught and bottled craft beer selection and a food menu designed to complement it.

Thornbridge has also secured a second site in York, which is due to open before the end of 2018 with venues planned for London, Manchester, Brighton and Leeds.

Thornbridge chief executive Simon Webster said: “We are delighted to be able to announce that the Birmingham site is close to opening and we have secured a second site in York.

“It’s really important to us to find sites that we feel fit with our brand and, in which, we can create fantastic pubs, bringing our beer to every part of the UK. Working alongside Pivovar has really helped us on this journey.”

Pivovar owner and director Jamie Hawksworth added: “It’s been a long time coming, which has allowed us to develop our bar design and identity.

“There’s now massive excitement to present our take on the perfect city pub, and Birmingham, with its already amazing beer scene, is a fabulous place for our first site.”

"We have taken no shortcuts or cutbacks in design. It’s an expensive fit out incorporating designs from the Arts & Crafts Movement using Scottish Hyde leather and English oak panelling.

“This is a pub for life with no gimmicks. A place where we want to drink the finest craft beers.”
