Having launched in 2011 as a producer of cask beer, Mobberley’s taproom chain – named Project 53 after Cheshire’s latitudinal position of 53 degrees north on the map – will comprise sites in Stockport and Knutsford.
Alongside first-rate craft beer from keg, cans and cask – 50% of which will be Mobberley Brewhouse beers with the remainder selected from friends of the business – the two sites will also specialise in craft gin and offer a broad selection of wine, cider and spirits with regular live music.
Mobberley’s owner and head brewer James Roberts summed up the philosophy behind Project 53 as “to create a welcoming bar where people can have a great time and enjoy quality craft beer and gin”.
He added: “There will be no competition between the craft beers we have on offer, it will just all be great beer!
“The knowledge and passion of all our staff will be what makes it special. Customers want personal recommendations on the beers, and that’s what we can offer.”
As part of the expansion, Roberts’s sister Sophie will join Mobberley Brewhouse as operations director.
Sophie Roberts said: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of operations director for Project 53. Ever since James started the Mobberley Brewhouse business in 2011, I have been involved in one way or another.
“It’s great to finally formalise my involvement in the business and I am really excited about our plans for the future.”
