Stonegate team scale three peaks for mental health charities

Stonegate’s 18-strong ‘Team North’ have completed the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for mental health charities.

The pubco’s area managers and operations support personnel trained for six months before attempting the 28 mile hike, which includes a 5,200ft climb up three Pennine peaks in less than 12 hours.

Prior to scaling Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough the group had already raised almost £7,000, and are asking people to donate on the team’s Just Giving page to reach their £9,000 target.  All the money raised will go to Mind, the mental health charity, and SAMH, the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

A good cause

Team leader and operations director for the north, Julie Lodge, said: "Most of the team were not particularly fit before we started the training, but we are all passionate about raising money for a good cause.

“One in four people suffer from some form of mental illness at some point in their lives and some of the team had been personally touched by that, so they were particularly keen to take on the Three Peaks Challenge and raise funds, as well as awareness about the issues that sufferers face.

"Having survived the walk, with plenty of blisters and aching limbs between us to show for it, we would be extremely grateful for a little bit of extra support to help us reach our £9,000 target."

MIND and SAMH

Stonegate North adopted Mind and SAMH as the group’s official charities for this financial year. So far the team as a whole has raised a total of £45,000 from various events taking place in pubs. Fund raisers are hoping to hit a £60,000 target by year-end in September. The two charities will then be presented with cheques in an official ceremony.
