Ciderologist announces cider tasting tours

Cider expert Gabe Cook will be hosting monthly cider tasting tours of the Bristol Harbourside this summer.

Cook will act as the guide on these unique tours, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge about cider.

The tour will start at The Stable in Bristol, tasting a flight of five different ciders and perries, demonstrating the array of styles alongside eating the venue’s high-quality pizza.

History and heritage

The tour will then move on to the city’s iconic floating cider pub the Apple to taste traditional West Country fare, before heading to Bristol Cider Shop.

Attendees will sample some fine ciders and will match their drinks with a hand-picked selection from award-winning Bristol Cheesemonger.

Cook, who is the resident cider expert on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, said: “Such an offering is long overdue. Although people have been undertaking their own ‘personal’ cider tours of the city for decades, there has never been a tour that provides full understanding of the history and heritage of this drink, as well as an explanation of how and why different styles are achieved. I’m bringing this knowledge back to cider’s headquarters and I can’t wait!”

Cider Summit

The Cider Summit is back as a standalone event.

In Bristol on 22 June this year, it will be hosted by ciderologist and friend of The Morning Advertiser (MA) Gabe Cook.

Cook, who has travelled the world in search of cider stories, has developed an agenda of fascinating topics designed to tickle the fancies of all those interested and involved in cider. MA food and drink editor Nicholas Robinson said: “Cider is growing in the on-trade and although its representation on the bar may not be as vast as beer, it is of great interest to consumers who want to see more innovation, more flavours and more formats.

“At our Cider Summit, we’re going to give you the information you need to make informed decisions on what to stock, what the upcoming trends are and what you should steer clear of.”
