Vegan-friendly Baileys Almande available to the on-trade

Drinks giant Diageo has launched a dairy-free variant of Baileys Almande in the on-trade, following a sell-out trial in the off-trade.

The new variant is bottled at 13% ABV and is best served simply over a few cubes of ice in a short tumbler.

Alternatively, the tipple can be added to cool coffee and a glass full of ice or blended with strawberries and served in a coupette.

Blending flavours

Allowing licensees to capitalise on the growing demand for dairy-free products, the new vegan-friendly variant blends the flavours of almond oil and essence with vanilla.

Baileys Europe marketing director Laura Pearce said: “With dairy-free products in high demand and almond milk currently the fastest growing product in its category (according to IRI product growth categories research 2016), as the number one-selling liqueur brand, to produce an alternative variant which taps into this.

“Baileys Almande offers customers – who buy into the free-from category, which is currently worth £586m, and existing customers looking to try something new – the opportunity to truly indulge under the strength of the Baileys name.

“Following the success of the initial rollout into Whole Foods and The Goodness Project, we expect it will see great results in the on-trade channel too.”

New colour

The new bottle features the Baileys design with a fresh new colour palette, which aims to stand out on the bar. The launch will be supported by a six-figure marketing investment and a targeted digital campaign.

In 2016, Baileys unveiled a limited-edition flavour – Pumpkin Spice – just in time for the autumn and featured spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

The Irish cream could be consumed on its own over ice, in a Flat White Martini or used to give coffees and hot chocolates a boozy winter kiss.
