Almost 2,000 pubs sign up to the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz

PubAid and Prostate Cancer UK are calling on the pub industry to host a quiz and raise money for charity, which will take place on 4-8 March.

This is the third year PubAid – the group dedicated to highlighting the work UK pubs do for charity – has run the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz.

When pubs sign up to participate in the initiative, they will be sent a quiz pack containing everything needed to host a quiz night. While each pub can nominate a charity to raise funds for, those unsure are encouraged to partner with the event’s sponsors, Prostate Cancer UK.

The initiative has gathered support from industry bodies such as the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), both of which have been actively encouraging their members to participate.

PubAid co-founder Des O’Flanagan said: “The quiz is a great way of recognising the fabulous work that UK pubs do for charity in raising over £100m a year.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Prostate Cancer UK, which has recognised that great British pubs are places to get their message heard and been enthusiastic supporters of the role the pub plays in the fabric of our communities.”

Prostate Cancer UK’s director of fundraising James Beeby added: “We are thrilled to partner with PubAid for the second year and have already seen over a 1,000 pubs sign up to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

“Our number of ‘pop-up’ pubs known as the Men United Arms is growing rapidly so it made sense to link up with PubAid again to reach even more publicans and consumers with a message about prostate cancer, and to raise money to fight the disease – which kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK.”
