The nation’s favourite gin has been revealed
In a consumer poll organised by Craft Gin Club, 33,000 subscribers tasted a carefully vetted selection of some of the world’s finest gins gin and tonics, before a mass vote to reveal the nation’s most popular tipple.
The coveted top spot was awarded to British produced Batch Premium Gin.
Lovingly handcrafted by family and friends in Burnley, Lancashire, Batch Premium Gin’s botanical blend includes warming frankincense and myrrh, indicating a growing appreciation for more complex spices and seasonality.
Seasonal flavours prove popular
In second place was Gunpowder Gin, infused with springtime citrus, spice and gunpowder tea. In third position was Marylebone Gin, enjoyed for its juniper, sweet citrus and summer florals.
Evaluating the findings, Craft Gin Club also observed a growing taste for seasonal flavour profiles made with fresh, readily available fruits, spices and botanicals at the time of production. The company expects this trend is expected to become increasingly prominent throughout 2018.
Additional anecdotal findings from the public vote showed that juniper-led and citrus-led gins were the most popular, while gins with earthy tones tended to be more divisive. The importance of branding was also ranked high for bottle selection.
'Beyond thrilled'
Craft Gin Club co-founder John Burke said: “As the UK’s biggest subscription gin club, we have a unique opportunity to talk to tens of thousands of highly engaged gin lovers across the country, which is invaluable in shaping new trends and inspiring innovation. In 2018, we will see more seasonal gins, made with botanicals of the moment.”
Batch Premium Gin director Phil Whitwell added: “We are beyond thrilled at being voted Britain’s favourite gin. We started distilling in the basement of the family home back in 2015 and we could never have imagined growing so quickly and being shown this much love from the British public. Thank you.”
