Hungry Horse pub serves chicken to pescatarian
According to the Eastern Daily Press, Jo Rose ordered scampi but was served chicken nuggets when she visited the Shoe Makers pub for her husband’s birthday last Sunday (14 January).
She told the newspaper: “I chose the scampi for lunch and was really enjoying it. I put a piece in my mouth, I wasn’t looking at my plate as we were busy talking and laughing, but I quickly realised that something was horribly wrong.
“It wasn’t scampi, it was a chicken nugget and it made me feel really sick as I hadn’t eaten a single piece of meat in 30 years.”
Money back
Jo’s husband, Gary called a waitress over and asked to speak with the manager. He said the waitress did apologise immediately and went to find a manager.
However, the local paper reported that Gary said the waitress returned alone as “they were too busy to speak to us”.
He added that £10 was taken off the couple’s £30 bill but Jo said the experience ruined their day and they will not return to the pub.
Human error
A spokesperson for the Shoe Makers, which is part of Greene King’s Hungry Horse brand, apologised for the incident and said there was action being taken to ensure it wouldn’t happen again.
They said: “We are very sorry for what happened on this occasion. The pub was extremely busy and the isolated incident was down to human error.
“As soon as the mistake had been realised, we apologised to the guest and offered a full refund. We are taking appropriate action to ensure something like this cannot happen again.”
