Police swooped on a Middlesbrough pub following reports of a weapon inside and a "large scale disturbance".

Police were contacted at 8.30pm yesterday (14 November) by a member of the public with concerns for a man "believed to be at risk from another person or people" inside the former Laurel Hotel, now the Springfield pub, on Borough Road in Middlesbrough.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police told The Morning Advertiser: "As is routine when weapons are mentioned by a caller, armed police attended the pub, arriving to a large scale disturbance.

"Officers required those present to leave while armed response vehicles and response and dog section officers remained in the area searching for named individuals."
