Hook Norton opens new Malthouse Kitchen

Hook Norton Brewery is opening a new Malthouse Kitchen site next month (Thursday 9 November) to cater for its increasing visitor numbers.

Housed in the original Maltings building, at the company’s brewery in Oxfordshire, which has been restored to its original look with red brick walls, ironwork and wooden floors, Malthouse Kitchen diners can taste a café-style menu showcasing freshly prepared local, traditional food for breakfast and lunch.

The rooms at the Hook Norton site, which are now home to the Malthouse Kitchen were previously being used as storage and in need of repair so the company decided to renovate them and add a restaurant and kitchen.

The menu will offer small and large plates, and dishes will make use of Hook Norton’s ale such as Old Hook Steak and Ale Pie; Buttered Toast and Hooky Gold Marmalade.

Christmas time

The venue is also offering a Christmas lunch menu and bookings are being taken for a series of Christmas party evenings.

Customers can also enjoy a full range of teas and hand-ground coffee alongside home-made cakes and pastries.

There will also be a bar serving the latest range of Hook Norton ales from cask, keg and bottles along with wines, spirits and soft drinks.

Guests can also visit the free brewery museum, browse around the expanded brewery shop or pop to the stables and visit the shire horses.

Appetite grows

Hook Norton managing director James Clark said: “Interest in beer continues to grow, as does the appetite for knowledge, and products with genuine provenance.

“The building had laid unused for many years and was in need of investment so rather than just repair the building, we decided to enhance our visitors' experience.

“The new on-site facility allows us to offer more to our brewery tour visitors with beer and food matching, a wider variety of dishes and a unique environment within which to enjoy it.”

The Malthouse Kitchen will be open seven days a week and available for private hire.
