New World Trading expands successful Newcastle Botanist site

New World Trading Company (NWTC) will expand one of its most successful sites in a bid to keep up with growing demand.

The Botanist in Newcastle has been a success since day one, according to the multi-award-winning pub chain, but increased demand for private hire means the venue will have to grow if it is to keep up.

When it launched in 2014, the venue seated 10,000 covers during the first month and has grown that figure considerably since.

The extension to the venue’s mezzanine floor, which overlooks a nine-metre tall sycamore tree, will add another 645sq ft of trading space, creating space for up to another 80 guests.

Additional 60 covers

When not booked, the space will be able to hold an additional 60 covers, increasing the restaurant’s total dining capacity to 202.

The new extension will have its own bar, which will sell a selection of ales, beers, ciders, spirits, wines and NWTC’s award-winning cocktails.

Botanist Newcastle general manager Andrew Shiel-Redfern said: “Since bringing the Botanist to Newcastle, we’ve been overwhelmed with the response and are really pleased to be extending our offering that will allow us to welcome more diners and accommodate private hire bookings for up to 80 guests.

“This is especially important as we near the Christmas season and parties of all sizes descend on the venue. The unique aspect of the level means that you still get the atmosphere of the entire bar and restaurant area below and, of course, easy access to our outdoor roof terrace.”

‘Will remain open’

He added: “Work is now under way and will be carried out outside of our trading hours meaning we’ll remain open as usual throughout the duration. We’re hoping to unveil our new mezzanine next month and can’t wait for people to see it.”

NWTC swept the board at this year’s Publican Awards, snatching the top accolade for six awards, the first time in history one company has won so many categories at the award-winning event.

At the time, managing director Chris Hill told The Morning Advertiser: “To win six awards tonight is the most amazing, surreal, feeling.

“These are the industry awards – I can’t actually put into words how I feel.”
