4 pubs receive Michelin Guide Bib Gourmands

A number of pubs from across the country, including one Top 50 Gastropub, have received Bib Gourmands in this year's Michelin Guide.

Bib Gourmands are awarded to pubs and restaurants that are typically more affordable and comfortable than their Michelin-starred counterparts.

Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub the Staith House in North Shields, Tyneside, a quayside pub focusing on a daily changing seasonal menu, is run by Masterchef: The Professionals finalist John Calton.

Calton's passion combined with business partners' Kimberley Calton and James Laffan's dedication made the pub a recipe for success.

The Hadleigh Ram in Hadleigh, Suffolk, describes itself as a comfortable and refined boutique Michelin Guide listed restaurant and bar that specialists in unusual menu items.

The Michelin Guide said it loved the fish dishes at the market-town pub.

The Hare & Hounds in Aberthin, south Wales, prides itself on serving good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings.

The guide said the pub's chef-owner's London experience shows.

A casual and informal space, the Hope & Anchor in Ferriby, Lincolnshire, doesn't compromise on the quality of its food.

The guide hailed the pub's team as passionate and hardworking.

The full Michelin Guide is being announced later today (2 October).
