Brewdog launches Oxford site with 'Punking"

Scottish craft brewer BrewDog, is to open its first site in Oxford with ‘beer school’ punting.

It is offering Oxford residents the chance to go ‘Punking’- its own take on punting - as the bar opens on Friday, 29 September.

BrewDog bar staff will be conducting ‘beer schools’ aboard a punt, where passengers can learn about the process of brewing beer, hear BrewDog’s story, and sample some of BrewDog’s brews.

The operator said that finding a site in a suitable location in Oxford “proved difficult”. The Cowley Road venue was finally selected after several of BrewDog’s Equity for Punks investors tipped off the craft brewer about its availability.

This is the 30th bar in the UK for the operator and the 47th worldwide.

There are 15 different draught lines on offer at the Oxford bar including BrewDog’s LIVE beer. There will also be a wide range of bottled beers from around the world to drink in or take away.

The bar has a permanent outdoor drinking space in front, and will offer a burger menu featuring the BrewDog bar favourite, the Cluck Norris chicken burger.

BrewDog’s ‘Punking’ will take place on Saturday, 30 September, between 12noon and 2pm. Punts will depart from and return to Cherwell Boathouse, Oxford, with each ‘beer school’ session lasting approximately 30 minutes.

“This bar is an exemplification of the commitment our Equity Punks have for sharing our collective passion for craft beer. They took on the task of becoming scouts for new sites, and found an amazing location for us to set up in Oxford,” said BrewDog co-founder James Watt.

“Oxford’s craft beer scene has been growing steadily in recent years and we’re proud to join forces with other brewers standing up for innovation, imagination and taking risks.”
