Barman receives disciplinary action for writing 'lesbians' on receipt

A barman of a Welsh holiday park’s on-site pub has received disciplinary action after printing the word “lesbians” on a gay couple’s receipt.

The Haven Hafan y Môr Holiday Park, Pwllheli, north Wales, owned by Bourne Leisure Ltd, has “sincerely apologised” after a couple were left “speechless” when they saw what was printed underneath the table number on the receipt.

Horrifying description

Belinda Mulcahy, 46, and Joanne Sheperd, 41, were out celebrating Mulcahy’s birthday when they asked for their bill and saw the “horrifying” description.

Talking to The Sun, Sheperd said: “We hadn't done anything overt. We hadn't been kissing or holding hands. We could have been friends.

“So the fact he decided to identify us as lesbians was a bit horrifying. We were shocked.”

Sorry for any distress

A spokesperson for Hafan y Môr Holiday Park said: "Our sincere apologies go to the guests involved.

"This incident should not have occurred and we are sorry for any distress caused.

"Following an investigation conducted by management, the individual concerned has been subject to internal disciplinary action.

"Our team members will also undertake refreshed training courses to ensure that an incident like this does not occur in the future.”
