The pupils from Seahouses Middle School were invited to take a look around the Bamburgh Castle Inn, in Seahouses, by The Inn Collection Group.
During their access-all-areas visit, the pupils were shown how front of house works, housekeeping and roles in the kitchen.
The Year 8 youngsters took part in a tour around the North East England Tourism Awards’ Pub of the Year 2015 to meet staff.
Real-life working environment
Nicola Austin, the pub’s general manager, said they place “a lot of importance” on bringing schoolchildren out of the classroom and into the pub’s real-life working environment.
“They can see first-hand the range of different jobs available and learn more about the full range of transferable skills they can gain,” she said.
“These can either be used as a springboard into other areas of employment or as a pathway to progression within our group.”
Sarian Creigh, the teacher of the visiting pupils, added: “I think it’s very important that young people are helped to understand the value of tourism and the impact it has on the community we live in and the range of jobs that are available in the leisure and hospitality sectors.”
