Thousands of Labour supporters plan 'victory pub party'

Almost 7,000 people could turn up at a Fuller’s pub in Westminster for a 'victory party' if Labour wins the general election next month.

The event, which has been set up on a Facebook page titled "Jeremy Corbyn Victory Party", will be held at the Red Lion pub in Westminster – where Corbyn celebrated winning the Labour leadership in election in 2015 – if the political party triumphs.

Currently, 1,700 Labour supporters have said they are going, with a further 4,900 saying they are interested in attending.

Encourage people to vote

The event will be hosted by Grand Marshal Corbyn’s Patriotic Collection, a group that creates social media pictures in support of Jeremy Corbyn to encourage young people to vote.

In the invite, people have been told to bring cans to share "as the pub will, no doubt, be full”, along with red flags and mobile sound systems.

The post said: “Comrades! Compatriots! Followers of the cause! Come far and wide and toast our ultimate victory in the name of our great leader – Corbyn”.

No bias towards any political party

In response, a spokesman for Fuller's said it did not support any particular party – “except birthday parties”.

“We do what a pub does best, bring people from all walks of life together to have a fantastic pint and a delicious pie,” they said.

“Election season is here and the Red Lion welcomes everyone, regardless of political leanings. However, we are not affiliated with any political party and are not supporting any election campaign by way of hosting events for a party."
