Three Cheers Pub Company has announced that it has grown its portfolio by acquiring the Bedford in Balham, south London, taking its total number of sites up to eight.

The pubco, which operates sites in south London, said that it plans to keep the site open for the next few months before closing it for a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Details of the refurbishment are still to be finalised as the site is Grade-II listed and the operator is yet to acquire listed-building consent. But Three Cheers confirmed it planned to spend more than £2m on the site and intended to keep the strong comedy and live music offer that is currently in place.

Calling the acquisition as a “huge milestone”, pubco co-owner Tom Peake said that the site would be a strong addition to the company’s existing portfolio.
