On Friday 28 April, a car crashed into the exterior of the Goat pub at around 3pm. The Croydon Advertiser reported that the car collided with a lorry before smashing into the pub, which is at the corner where Goat Road meets London Road.
A spokesman for the pubco confirmed that no one in the pub was injured, and said: “Staff handled the incident very professionally and called the emergency services within minutes, as well as offering first aid to the driver – who declined.”
Pub reopens day after incident
A London Fire Brigade spokesman told the Croydon Advertiser that the driver, a middle-aged man, was on his own when he lost control of the car and it was a “miracle” no one was hurt.
The pub remained closed on Friday then reopened on Saturday after checks by a surveyor from Merton Council to confirm it was structurally sound.
Damage caused to the front corner of the pub will be fixed when it closes for planned refurbishment works at the end of May.
