GBPA winner sponsors football supporters' league

A west London pub is aiming to bring in additional trade by sponsoring a new football league for London supporters' clubs.

The Famous Three Kings in Fulham is sponsoring the recently founded London Supporters League. The league sees fans of Celtic, Lazio, Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina, Porto, Aston Villa and Lyon play nine-a-side football matches against each other before going to the pub after the match.

The Stonegate site won the Best Sports Pub category at 2016’s Great British Pub Awards and the pub’s manager, Paul Eastwood, said that he felt creating a community atmosphere in the pub through events like this has contributed to the pub’s success.

“It ties into our ethos of friendly rivalry and passion for the game. Most pubs that have Lazio and Roma fans in the same club would be expecting trouble, but we have got to the stage where they are having drinks together after matches,” he said.

The first season will conclude in June and Eastwood says there has already been substantial interest from other supporters' clubs based in the capital for the league next season.
