BrewDog to crowdfund 'world's first' craft beer hotel

A crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the ‘world’s first’ craft beer hotel has been launched by Scottish brewer and pubco BrewDog.

The hotel, DogHouse, will be attached to the brewer’s new US sour beer facility in Columbus, Ohio.

Supporters can rack up rewards from tours, tastings and T-shirts for free stays in the hotel, beer-related spa treatments and the chance to design their own sour beer.

The design process for the hotel is currently being put together to make it the best beer-orientated hotel in the world.

Target smashed

Plans include craft beer minibars, punk IPA on tap in the hotel rooms, en-suite shower beer fridges and views of sour beer foeders (wooden barrels used for fermentation).

The original target for the fundraising, which started last week (Thursday 2 March) was $75,000 (£61,500) in 30 days but, in just five days, that goal had been smashed and currently the money raised stands at $129,789 (£106,427).

Co-founder and CEO James Watt outlined the design of the new site and lauded it “the new happiest place on earth”.

Immersive craft beer experience

He said: “So many people have visited our new brewery in America so far and we have not even released our first beer.

“With the number of Equity Punks we now have Stateside, as well as our international community of 55,000 shareholders, we are gearing up to help make the pilgrimage to our brewery an even more immersive craft beer experience.

“The rooms in the DogHouse will be reminiscent of our most popular beers, with rooms overlooking the foeders in our new sour beer facility and we will have hop-infused face masks – tailored to the hops in your favourite beers – malted barley massages, plus a fridge in your en-suite so you’re never more than arm’s length from a chilled can of Punk IPA.”

BrewDog announced the opening of its first US pub at its brewery and headquarters in Canal Winchester, Ohio, last month (February).
