Leeds-based North Bar Group saw record-breaking sales across its seven sites over the Christmas period with a year-on-year rise in turnover of 21%.

North Bar’s dining pub the Cross Keys was a standout success story as it more than doubled the number of bookings taken compared to 2015.

North Bar director John Gyngell said: “We’re really pleased that all the planning promotion and execution of our events at Christmas really paid off.

“It’s given us a great boost as we move into 2017 which we are hoping will be even bigger and better particularly as we will be celebrating North Bar’s 20th birthday this year.”

Anniversary celebrations

The 20th anniversary celebrations will be marked with a huge fundraising event to reach a target of £20,000 for the company’s chosen charity, St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds.

The brewing arm of North Bar Co announced it was set to move away from its current paper labels this week (16 January) after updated designs were approved for printed cans.

Brewery director Christian Townsley said the company was sad to see the paper labels go, but happy with the new designs.

Moving forward with distribution

He said: “We’re excited to move forward with a number of new distribution channels for the cans including a national listing with Matthew Clark, potential partnerships with several national supermarkets and further export opportunities in Sweden, Ireland and Holland.”

North Bar opened the Sheepscar brewery site in 2015 and plans are in place to double the brewing capacity at the site.

Staff at the brewery has expanded recently in anticipation of a busy year ahead to include the newly created position of sales coordinator.
