Greene King launches support package to boost cask and keg ale sales

Greene King has launched a support package for pubs to help drive cask and keg ale sales.

Licensees in both tenanted and leased sites will receive a range of information and advice from appointed brewery ambassadors on beer-quality training and cask pricing reviews.

Operators who wish to set up a beer festival could also receive potential funds and support from the operator to promote the event.

‘Variety of support’

Greene King Pub Partners managing director Clive Chesser said: “We have put a huge variety of support into one place for our licensees wanting to bolster their sales of cask and keg ales within our pubs.

“For our licensees to be able to contact one of our new brewery ambassadors and discuss this area in depth means a lot of the hard work is done for them.

“Creating the right cask-ale range is essential to keep drinkers interested and we know customers want a choice of beer styles and strengths.

“We are also putting an emphasis on the importance of serving a good pint and outlining the positive impact this has on customer confidence and sales.”

Potential sponsorship

The training package includes free video apps and online resources; licensees can also purchase further cellar management training information.

Greene King has also claimed it could provide sponsorship for licensees who are interested in obtaining a Cask Marque award — an accreditation for serving high-quality cask ale — for their pub.

Licensees who wish to install new house craft lager will be supplied with a range of pump clips and lens designs, the operator claimed.

MRO quote plea

Last month 24 licensees requested a quote from the market rental option (MRO) in the first three months of the pubs code, the company revealed.

The company said in its interim results for the 24 weeks until the 16 October: “We remain of the view that MRO will not have a material impact on the group”.

Greene King has also claimed it trained more than 100 team members to ensure the company was fully compliant with the statutory code and the voluntary code.
