Stonegate Pub Company gives cash backing to Best Bar None

Responsible retailing in the on-trade has been given a £10,000 boost from the Stonegate Pub Company.

The cash injection to Best Bar None (BBN) will allow the initiative, which seeks to bring the industry into partnership with local authorities, police and community groups, to roll out further programmes across the UK.

Stonegate said that around 75% of its 600 plus estate were involved in schemes to improve customer safety and the donation to Best Bar None would help increase the organisation’s reach.

'Benefits us all'

Stonegate chief executive Simon Longbottom said: “Making our communities safer and attracting visitors into our cities and town centres requires a co-ordinated effort between all agencies and the industry.

“Supporting Best Bar None enables the team to reach more areas across the country to further promote the positives of starting a scheme that benefits us all.”

The money will assist with BBN’s plans to roll out initiatives in Bolton, Falmouth and Warrington.

BBN national co-ordinator Mick McDonnell said: “There is lots of evidence from the places that operate a Best Bar None scheme that the partnership approach to tackling alcohol-related harms delivers a reduction in incidents and crime.”

Positive impact

Meanwhile BBN is calling for entries in its annual awards competition with three categories up for grabs: Best Overall Scheme, Best New Scheme and Most Innovative Scheme.

The event aims to recognise pubs that demonstrate how BBN has made a positive impact in their local community.

The first phase of applications will close this weekend (Sunday 27 November) while second-phase judging will take place between Monday 28 November and Sunday 8 January 2017.

Prizes will be presented by BBN chair Robert Humphreys at the House of Lords on Tuesday 31 January 2017.
