The so-called 'battle of the breweries' match took place at St Blaise Park, near St Austell, with St Austell emerging as victors against of tough opposition from Sharp’s.
St Austell therefore won back the coveted Staughton Shield after losing to Sharp's at St Minver, near Rock, last year in a penalty shoot-out.
High-scoring affair
But this year the St Austell team, the Tribute Terriers, managed by Andy Kennedy, were able to score five goals in the first half alone.
The game ended up being a high-scoring affair with St Austell eventual victors 8-3 at full time after a quick fightback from Sharp's in the second half.
Kennedy said: “This was a great game played at full tilt by both sides and we’re very happy to have come out on top this time around, which means it’s all to play for again next year. Plenty of rivalry on the pitch but plenty of laughs back in the bar afterwards, which is exactly as it should be.”
Charity
After the match a raffle took place with prizes donated by both teams in order to raise funds for the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust.
Sharp's XI were looking forward to the rematch on home turf next year - and the chance to claim back the Staughton Shield.
Sharp's team captain Andrew Madden, who is also head brewer at Sharp's, said: “They got the better of us today but it was an excellent game and it just makes the anticipation of the fourth outing for the shield next year that little bit greater. We’ll be up for it and we know St Austell will, so roll on 2017 and another great competition.”
