Christmas TV football fixtures announced

The final match of 2016 will see the early favourites for the Premier League title, Manchester City and Liverpool, meet at Anfield live on BT Sport on New Year's Eve.

The Anfield clash is one of 12 Premier League matches that will be shown live on either Sky Sports or BT Sport between Boxing Day and Wednesday 4 January; representing a chance to bring extra trade into pubs over the festive period.

The festive matches are part of the full list of TV fixtures for December and January that have been confirmed by both BT Sport and Sky Sports.

Other highlights on BT Sport include a midweek fixture between Arsenal and Everton on 13 December and an early-evening Saturday clash between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur on 21 January.

Standout fixtures on Sky Sports, meanwhile, include a tantalising Saturday lunchtime match between Manchester City and Chelsea on 3 December; Tottenham's visit to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on 11 December; the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton on a Monday night on 19 December; and a London derby between Watford and Tottenham Hotspur on New Year's Day.

'Even more reason to visit pubs'

In December, Sky Sports will also be showing EFL (English Football League) fixtures on ten consecutive days, from 9 December to 18 December. "It’s a campaign that in its debut season proved to be hugely successful and once again it gives us a real opportunity to focus on showcasing the very best of what the EFL has to offer," EFL CEO Shaun Harvey said.

Managing director of Sky Business, David Rey, added: "Sky Sports’ huge line-up of 28 live Premier League games over Christmas and New Year gives people even more reason to visit pubs in the busy festive period. In December alone Sky Sports will be showing 35 live games, including some great EFL matches. With some massive fixtures lined up including Manchester City v Chelsea, Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City v Arsenal, Sky Sports will draw the crowds in to venues across the country.”
