Customer 'ate 95%' of pub meal then left scathing review

A West Midlands pub has hit back at a customer who posted a one-star review on TripAdvisor, criticising the site’s food and staff.

A post from TripAdvisor reviewer 'Mike' post described the food at the Greyhound Inn as “poor quality” and also posted his thoughts and comments on the pub's Facebook page.

He said on the pub's social media site: “Tourists save your money don’t go, fellow Coventry people there are better places. If you like poor food, not very happy looking staff then waste your money at this pub.”

He went on to talk about the food he ordered that he said was "uncooked", "greasy", "fatty", "cheap" and "poor quality" along with mentioning a comment from the pub’s website: “They speak of old fashioned values, doesn’t look the friendliest for taking children either as it appears children must only be “seen” and not heard?”

Pub's response

The pub, which is based in Sutton Stop, Coventry, Warwickshire, replied on TripAdvisor and Facebook apologising on the social media page to Mike that everything wasn’t as he had expected but defended its honour and said: “We noticed that you ate 95% of your food… but rushed to give us a one-star rating less than four hours after your visit.”

The pub has a four-and-a-half star rating on the review site and out of 579 reviews, 364 are ‘excellent’ and 149 are ‘very good’.

Further complaint

The reviewer also complained on the pub's Facebook page that no one from the pub called him after he left his phone number with a member of staff to which, the Greyhound replied that the manager was helping a fellow staff member who had “just suffered a very bad fall down the stairs”.
