‘Bobby’ has an ABV of 4.2% in a nod to the 4-2 score in the final in 1966 and is a light blonde British beer. It was released this week (30 July) in time for the new football season.
Moore captained the England side to victory in 1966 and lifted the trophy at the end of the final held at Wembley Stadium.
Bobby appeal
Senior brand manager at Greene King Emily Prince said: “Bobby Moore’s appeal goes beyond team affiliations and we believe ‘Bobby’ can be the definitive football beer, whoever your punters support.”
The beer was brewed in conjunction with creative agency Brandpool and the producers of the film Bobby, which honours the legendary player and was released earlier in the summer.
Sporting hero
The pump clip design and beer mats were inspired by the film's logo. Joint creative director of Brandpool John McWilliams said: “We’re thrilled to help create a beer honouring a genuine sporting hero.”
The film tells the story of Moore’s life through his family, fans and friends including Pelé, Harry Redknapp, Sir Geoff Hurst, Ray Winstone, Ray Davies and Russell Brand with previously unseen footage.
This won’t be the first time Greene King has honoured English icons with their beer. For the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in June, the pubco changed Greene King IPA to Greene Queen IPA.
This summer is set to be a scorcher with 2016's sporting fixtures from the Olympics in Rio, the start of the football season and, of course, golf, rugby and more. Read about the Summer of Sport here.
