The Friar Penketh on Barbauld Street raised £500 that will go to CLIC Sargent, which provides support to young cancer patients and their families.
Shift manager of the JDW pub, Charles Commins said: "We had 120 tickets available but we were completely sold out."
He added: "We had dozens of people coming in to find out about the quiz and ask if they could get tickets – that created a buzz around the town."
Tickets
Attendees paid £2 each for a ticket that was designed as acceptance letters students of the wizard school Hogwarts receive.
Commins also said: "We have done similar things over the years such as a St Patrick's Day quiz and a Halloween quiz but none of them had the success of this one.
"We definitely saw an increase in turnover and probably took about double what we would take on a normal Wednesday night."
The family-friendly event was open to all ages and Commins added: "We had young and old here, from a seven-year-old with his dad to people of retirement age taking part."
Decoration
The pub was decorated for the bewitching occasion with Hogwarts houses flags on the walls and Harry Potter design cakes using lightning bolts, glasses and the school house emblems.
As a result of the success, Commins said: "We are looking into doing a themed quiz once a month from now on but haven't quite decided on what we will do for the next one."
