Beer Day Britain is upon us once again

Beer Day Britain (BDB Day), aka National Beer Day on 15 June is less than three weeks away. After a successful inaugural celebration in 2015 this year’s event is already bigger, with many more brewers, pubs, and retailers involved.

The idea of BDB is simple – for people to drink beer, ideally in the pub, and to join in the National Cheers to Beer at 7pm.

This entails people raising a glass and if they use social media to post a message with the hashtag #CheersToBeer.

Last year we trended on Twitter and hope to do the same this year. To add jollity to the National Cheers To Beer, I have co-written an anthem to beer.

Singing together is good for mental and physical health and makes us happy. So does beer! Beer drinkers are invited to enter the contest called Beer Day Britain’s Got Talent, which aims to find the group that gives the most enthusiastic rendition of the song.

The song is called Cheers To Beer and downloads and details of the contest are available through www.BeerDayBritain.co.uk.

There are a variety of activities happening around the country. This is a small selection:

  • St Austell Brewery is having a big opening party to inaugurate its new visitor center and small-batch brewery.
  • Everard’s is offering social media users a chance to win beer and some of the company’s pubs are hosting special events.
  • Thwaite’s is brewing a celebration ale called Summer Solstice and some of pubs are hosting mini-beer festivals.
  • Hook Norton is hosting a party at the brewery with free sampling, tutored tasting, meet the brewer and a competition where the winner will get to brew their own beer.
  • Sharp’s is brewing a special beer.
  • Wadworth’s is giving away beer to social-media users.
  • Fourpure is hosting an event in their brewery tap.
  • A number of pubs in Skipton town centre are participating in an ale trail.
  • On-line beer retailers, such as Beers of Europe and Hop Hideout, are selling special mixed British beer cases.
  • Tesco has included the Beer Day Britain logo on its own-brand beer logos.

If you want to get involved in BDB please download a logo and an info pack from www.BeerDayBritain.co.uk and join in the National Cheers to Beer and let’s have a party to celebrate the national drink.
