PMA launches new people and training event - Pub Skills Summit

The Publican’s Morning Advertiser (PMA) is launching an exciting new event as part of its focus on pub sector training and careers.

The Pub Skills Summit is a one-day conference that aims to showcase some of the outstanding work many pub companies are doing when it comes to recruitment and people development.

The trade has upped its game significantly over recent years in this field with many of the sector’s employers now recognised as best in class. But challenges remain, with skills shortages across the trade still a major concern and the stubborn perception persisting that pub jobs are no more than stop gaps rather than viable long-term career options.

Speakers at the event will include senior industry figures from award-winning pub companies recognised for their excellent training and development strategies. Delegates will also hear from the next generation of potential leaders about how they view the sector and what can be done to entice young people.

With the help of selected partners, the summit also aims to equip delegates with new thinking and resources to tackle skills challenges in their own businesses.

The event is aimed at operators of all levels, from independent to multi-site operators, as well as HR and training teams within leased, tenanted and managed pubcos.

Rising stars

The event follows the launch of skills-focused pages in the magazine last year and the PMA’s new Hot Shots initiative, which identifies and celebrates the trade’s rising stars.

PMA editor Ed Bedington said: “The pub sector now has some of the best training schemes available to employees across any sector. Pubs are a great choice for young people as they enter the world of work and can provide fulfilling careers. This event aims to showcase the great work currently going on, highlight new thinking and help tackle some of the challenges we face.”

The agenda will be revealed soon.
