Portuguese beer Super Bock launched to UK on-trade

Brookfield Drinks has announced it will distribute Portuguese pilsner Super Bock to the British on-trade.

The company's distribution strategy will be to target Super Bock at premium independent outlets and gastropubs during the summer months, it said.

Nigel McNally, managing director of Brookfield Drinks, said: "The response we've had from the on and off-trade to Super Bock's arrival has been really strong and we are excited about rolling it out over the coming months."

Conviviality

He added: "This is a brand that is all about conviviality, friendship and the Portuguese way of enjoying life. We aim to open up a window on the modern, young and dynamic culture of the increasingly cosmopolitan cities of Lisbon and Porto."

Super Bock will launch initially in 30-litre kegs and 33cl bottles, with further variants to be released during the next year including a stout, alcohol-free variant and, potentially, a flavoured lager.

The beer will be accompanied by new pressure dispense bar fonts as well as specially designed glasses.

Taste

Portuguese chef Nuno Mendes, who hosted a launch party for the beer at his Spitalfields restaurant Taberna do Mercado, said: "Super Bock has been the beer that I grew up with while I was living in Portugal.

"It is the perfect easy-drinking but complex beer with fantastic taste and refreshing character that goes perfectly alone or with some tasty food and in my view, one of Portugal's best-kept secrets."
