Vagina-infused beer slammed as ‘desperate attempt for publicity’

A brewer’s announcement that it plans to brew a beer using bacteria from the vagina of a Czech model has been branded a “desperate attempt for publicity” by a top UK beer sommelier.

Polish brewers the Order of Yoni launched a crowdfunding campaign earlier this week to fund the production of Bottled Instinct, a beer which would contain lactic acid from the vagina of model Alexandra Brendlova.

Beer sommelier Jane Peyton said: “The beer world is already full of sad men who think that beer belongs to them and have to resort to using female imagery or sexist, misogynist language to market their beers.”

'Encourages them to exploit women'

She added: “Giving people like whoever is behind this stunt any attention just encourages them to exploit women and think that good business strategy means alienating 51% of the population from being potential customers.”

There has been speculation in the press as to whether the announcement was an early April fool’s gag or a public relations stunt. But aside from the outlandishness of the news, there appears to be no evidence to suggest so as it was announced a week before April fool’s day.

The brewer’s crowdfunding profile reads: “Imagine a woman of your dreams, your object of desire. Her charm, her sensuality, her passion… now free your fantasies and imagine that with a magic wand you can close it in one bottle of beer.”

So far the Order of Yoni has raised €234 in seven days towards their goal of €150,000.

'Desperate gimmick'

“Maybe the beer is an April fool’s joke. but even if it is, it would not surprise me if it were a real idea for beer,” added Peyton. “If it is real. then it’s a desperate attempt to get publicity – and it’s worked.

“There are already so many wonderful brewers and amazing beers on the market that do not use silly gimmicks like this that we already have plenty to drink.”
