Enterprise licensee Alan Reynolds, who last week celebrated 40 years as publican of The Bird in Hand, Shrewsbury, reflected on his achievement.
“Being a publican isn’t a job, it’s a way of life, and you have to see it like that to run a successful business,” he said.
“The last 40 years have undoubtedly been hard work, but it’s been a very enjoyable time, and I’ve met so many great people along the way. I give to my customers what I’d personally expect as a pub visitor.”
Reynolds is the longest serving publican in Shrewsbury, and runs the pub with his wife Jan.
Enterprise said The Bird in Hand is known for its hearty Sunday lunches, great drinks selection and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. It also host darts, dominoes and pool teams.
Regional manager at Enterprise Paul Boswell said: “40 years in one pub is an amazing achievement nowadays, considering the climate of the industry.
“As a publican, Alan not only serves the needs of his community, but he’s evolved and moved with the times, constantly listening to customers and giving them what they want. Here’s to the pub’s continued success.”
