Asahi Super Dry Black launched

Shepherd Neame is launching a bottled dark lager variant from Japanese lager brand Asahi, which it currently brews under licence in the UK.

The dark lager, named Asahi Super Dry Black, uses the same no.318 yeast as the flagship beer brand, but with the addition of roasted malt to achieve a deeper, flavour and darker appearance and will be available to all British pubs.

Asahi’s UK brand manager, Samantha Catford, said: “The challenge for UK consumers, who are accustomed to full-bodied dark ales, will be to discover its surprisingly light taste. Super Dry Black maintains the dry, refreshing qualities found in the original Super Dry, unlike most traditional stouts and porters.”

Asahi Super Dry Black will be available in 334ml bottles in cases of 24 and targets “those who appreciate a darker lager style and are looking for something new.”
