The actor, who recently portrayed notorious London gangsters the Kray Twins in Legend, is converting an old outhouse into a “private pub for his mates to hang out in,” reported The Mirror.
Hardy is said to be fashioning his private pub in the style of an old fashioned city boozer and gentlemen’s club.
Transition
And Hardy isn’t the only star to set his sights on owning a pub. A multitude of actors have tried to transition into the licensed trade – some with more success than others.
Neil Morrissey, of Men Behaving Badly fame, opened Punch Taverns Lease the Plume of Feathers, in Barlaston, Staffordshire in March.
Soon-to-be Top Gear presenter and DJ Chris Evans owned West Sussex pub the Lickfold Inn, but eventually sold it to Michelin-starred restaurateur Tom Sellers after it fell into disrepair. Sellers re-opened it in late 2014.
Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy, is co-owner of the Grapes, a grade II listed pub in Limehouse, London.
