Costa Coffee asked personal trainer Davina Ward to cover up or leave its Sutton High Street branch because she was dressed in leggings and sports bra following a gym session.
Oakman Inn’s CEO Peter Borg Heal said: “We regularly serve middle aged men in lycra so why discriminate against the ladies? When you’re seeing your friends for a quick cup of coffee, having to dress for the occasion seems to me to be rather missing the point of sociability. Costa’s behaviour is frankly a bit silly. By giving a free cup of coffee to people who are wearing a sports bra and leggings we’re showing our support for people everywhere who want to keep fit and stay social.”
Ward told the Daily Mail she felt she was being punished for ‘being fit and healthy.’ However, the Costa Barista said it was combination of health and safety and good-old fashioned common sense.
The unusual offer will be on at all of Oakman Inn’s 13 pubs.
