Norwich pub names new beer after slain lion Cecil

A Norwich pub has commemorated Cecil the lion, whose death attracted international outcry last week, by naming their new beer after him.

The Fat Cat pub in Norwich asked drinkers to name its new beer and settled on ‘Cecil’s Revenge’ as a fitting tribute to the fallen lion.

Regulars at the pub have now been tasked with coming up with a cartoon for the beer’s pump clip.

William Keatley, who works at the pub’s brewery the Fat Cat Brewery, said: “We brew a beer called the Wild Cat 5.0% and this new ale will be a bulked up version of that. We felt it would be ideal to have a name that related to wild cats.

"Our Facebook page has 3,300 followers so we decided to put it to the general public. A chap called David Edney commented that we should call it Cecil’s Revenge and its stuck. The general consensus seems to be we should stick with that name so Fat Cat Cecil’s Revenge it is!”

Cecil the lion was a national favourite in his home country Zimbabwe and was killed by American dentist and trophy hunter Walter Palmer. The brew will be released next week.
