Great British Beer Festival sees 40% rise in trade interest

Great British Beer Festival has seen a 40% increase in the number of licensees, brewers, and other members of the trade applying for tickets.

The trade session of the festival, sponsored by hop supplier Simply Hops, is expecting more than 7,000 industry members, up from 5,000 last year.

Festival organiser Ian Hill said: “As organisers we are constantly looking at ways to further improve the trade session of GBBF for industry attendees, which is why this year we have introduced a trade-show area in the pillar hall where smaller exhibitors can promote their products or explain their services to potential future customers.

“This will only be open during the trade session and has filled a gap in the event for companies, other than breweries, who want a presence at the festival.”

Breweries can also promote bottled beers in the trade area.

Simply Hops, the world’s largest supplier of hop products and services, will be running a master class in the trade area from 1-2pm to allow the trade to touch, taste and see the different hops used in brewing.

The Champion Beer of Britain announcement is the main focus of the trade day, where one brewery's beer will be named the best in Britain following 12 months of rigorous competitions and taste tests.

Last year’s winner Timothy Taylor saw a huge rise in demand for Boltmaker beer from pubs, while it was picked up to sell by Tesco’s nationally.

The Champion Bottled Beer of Britain competition will also take place on Tuesday, sponsored by online beer retailers Beer Hawk who will be producing a celebratory beer case containing 15 of the bottled finalists.

The trade session runs from 12-5pm on 11 August.
