Four pub operators have been named as winners in the city of Bristol’s fourth annual Good Food Awards.

Independent pub the Gloucester Old Spot won the award for Best Pub Food.

Amy Devenish, owner of the Gloucester Old Spot, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that our hard work has been recognised. We’d like to thank all our customers for nominating us.”

Toby Gritten, chef patron of the Pump House, in Hotwells, Bristol, won the Best Chef and Best British categories.

Josh Eggleton, chef patron of Michelin-starred pub the Pony & Trap, Chew Magna, was named Best Ambassador for Bristol Food. His standalone fish & chip outlet the Salt & Malt was highly commended for Best Fish & Chips.

The Swan Inn, at Nibley, won Best Front of House and was highly commended for Best Pub Food.

Winners were announced at a ceremony which took place at the Great Hall of Bristol Grammar School on Sunday 21 June.

Members of the public nominated the finalists, with over 30,000 votes cast at businesses around Bristol leading up to the awards.

Judges including Eggleton, double Michelin-starred chef Martin Blunos and Masterchef 2014 winner Ping Coombs then visited each finalist as mystery diners to decide the winners, evaluating the shortlisted competitors on their food and service.

BBC bound

Eggleton is set to compete on this year's BBC Great British Menu alongside fellow South Western chefs Dominic Chapman, of the Beehive, White Waltham and Jude Kereama, of Kota, Cornwall.
