The Scottish brewer and pub operator has been asking consumers around the country for suggestions of new sites across the UK.
Brewdog bar hunter Stephen Hogan told the Hull Daily Mail: “The main driving force in us looking to Hull was how vociferous people have been in wanting us to come.
“People have been saying to us ‘you need to come to Hull’ and that they are sick of drinking the same old beer and need something to shake it up.
“When you get this much support from one place it is definitely something you have to look in to. The next stage is for me to start doing work around Hull, visiting the city and working out where we would like to be."
He added: "We consider what our fans are saying on social media and in our Equity for Punks forum. They’re a very vocal bunch and are constantly coming up with potential sites and venues for us to launch a new craft beer haven, which is awesome! Hull is an great prospect for us. It's a rapidly changing city, with a young and vibrant population. The fact it got awarded the UK's City of Culture for 2017 gives you an indication of the type of changes that are ongoing in Hull. It’s got a great fledgling beer scene that we can’t wait to be a part of very soon!"
The northern city was not on Brewdog’s original UK hit list, which included Oxford, Exeter, Stirling and Plymouth.
Reaction on Twitter from Brewdog-loving Hull residents was enthusiastic, with numerous users expressing their surprise and delight at the prospective opening. Hull has been named as the 2017 city of culture, with organisers branding the city ‘a place on the edge that’s in the midst of everything.’
Brewdog recently confirmed they are set to open debut sites in Brighton, Glasgow and Berlin, as well as second sites in Edinburgh and Leeds.
