Snack attack: Tips on boosting snacks sales
Supplier JJ Food Service’s Sue Guilfoyle offers ideas for driving snack sales
- Be different: How do you differentiate your snack offering from others? Everyone loves crisps and nuts but having one or two more unusual lines like spicy pork scratchings can help to make your business stand out.
- Display it: It’s no good having great snacks if customers can’t see them! Bring snacks up from under the counter and remind staff to upsell when they take drinks orders - you could be driving incremental sales to every round!
- Special serves: Tim Foster at Yummy Pubs gives his customers cashew nuts in unique branded glasses (pictured) to create a more special serve. If you don’t have space for supplier glassware, why not experiment with your own?
- On-trend snacks: healthier eating habits have driven healthier bar snacks. In response we will be stocking Propercorn imminently. Buying in bulk helps to reduce packaging and manage portion control, while maximising margin.
- Offer treats: All Bar One gives every customer that orders a hot drink a free shot-glass full of Smarties – it’s a clever low-cost gesture that makes customers feel valued. Why not give yours a free shot of pistachios with every soft drink?
The company has launched a range of confectionery and snack lines to offer existing customers a broader range of products and attract business from new market sectors.
The range includes crisps, chocolate bars and nuts. Chief product officer at JJ, Ali Guvemli said: “Early feedback and sales indicate that the trial period has been extremely popular. We will be gradually expanding the range in response to customer demand.”
