Defibrillator installed at Swindon pub

A heart defibrillator has been installed at The Tavern Inn at Kemble Railway station in Gloucestershire.

The defibrillator has been placed on the outside of the pub, where it is easily accessible and visible in case of an emergency.

George Arkell, director at Arkell’s Brewery in Swindon which owns the pub, said: “A pub is a good place for such a life-saving device because everyone knows where their local pub is.”

It is the third defibrillator to have been installed in the village of Kemble and follows the death of railway station worker Malcolm Van Nuil five years ago who collapsed and died of a heart attack.

A second defibrillator is located at the Wild Duck in the nearby village of Ewan and a third at Kemble village hall.

Each defibrillator costs £2,000 and the money to buy them was raised by the Community Heartbeat Trust, Kemble and Ewan, led by villagers Anne Wilton, Anna Silk and Yvonne Binks.
