New products: Stickers, cider pies and dishes

This week's round-up of new products.

Lakeland

Lakeland Dairies has introduced a size ten butter dish, aimed at giving operators better portion control and reducing wastage.

Simon Muschamp, head of marketing at Lakeland Dairies, said: “Butter is an increasingly important category for Lakeland Dairies and the introduction of our new dish enables us to offer a format for every dining occasion and usage.

“We are proud to offer operators a pure. Unblended Irish butter churned from quality cows’ milk. More and more consumers are turning to natural food products and choosing to ‘eat clean’, especially butter, following the increasing bad press around highly-processed spreads.”

Lakeland is also launching a new design packaging for its 250g butter and size seven foil portions, featuring gold foil aimed at communicating the brand’s Irish heritage.

Bunzl

Bunzl catering supplies has launched a range of new Allergy Awareness stickers aimed at helping customers remember to check with operators whether potential purchases contain allergens.

Paul Willcocks, director of exclusive brands at Bunzl Catering Supplies, said: “It is estimated that 21 million adults in the UK suffer from at least one allergy and the latest research from Allergy UK - stating that 92% of food allergy sufferers are concerned about eating out - cannot be ignored.

“The health and safety of customers suffering from a food allergy remains a constant worry for operators and as a business, we know we can help by introducing initiatives and solutions that make it much easier for operators to look after food allergen sufferers.”

The new Stickers are available in packs of eight, which contain four reverse printed window stickers and four table sticks.

Bunzl has also introduces a new feature to its online label service Caterlabel, which allows operators to update allergen information quickly online.

Summer pies

Pieminister is launching two special Somerset cider pies for summer menus.

Sales of the pies, which include Orchard Pig cider, will help raise funds to plant a forest in Malawi for charity Temwa.

The pies are Tipsy chick, which is a free range British chicken and ham pie with summer vegetables including peas, broad beans, mint, parsley and lemon cooked in Orchard Pig Cider sauce.

The scrumpeais made with peas, asparagus, broad beans and fennel cooked with West Country cheddar, parsley and chives in a Orchard Pig cider sauce. Both 270g pies are available from 1 June until September 2015.

Pieminister founder, Tristan Hogg says, “We’ve learnt through our own shops and stalls that adding something new to your summer specials board gives incremental sales a huge boost.

And these two pies really capture the best of a Somerset summer in a pie, with seasonal ingredients cooked in crisp cider sourced near our kitchens in Bristol.

Why not order our signature eco-boxes and cutlery too, so your customers can enjoy their pie served just like we do at the many festivals we star at each summer, but in your beer garden or to take away!”

Serving ideas for the pies include with sweet potato chips and slaw.
