M&B wins Best Sirloin Steak award

Pubco giants Mitchells & Butlers were celebrating after taking the foodservice title for England’s Best Sirloin Steak.

The company claimed the crown, against two other butchery finalists, with its Miller and Carter 12oz Sirloin Steak.

The competition was organised by beef and lamb levy body Eblex to promote its Quality Standard Mark (QSM), with the winner announced at the Underglobe in London last night.

Butchery business Owen Taylor & Son went on to pip M&B to the post for the title of overall best steak with its Larder Trim Sirloin Steak.

The title of Best Innovative Steak went to leading UK catering butchers Aubrey Allen, who introduced the concept of the 1 Bone Sirloin Noisette.

Meanwhile the overall winner for England’s Best Steak Pie was foodservice supplier to Whitbread, Dunkley’s, who took the title for its Beef and Merlot Pie.

Hugh Judd, competition organiser and foodservice project manager, for EBLEX, said: “We launched the Quality Standard Mark Excellence Awards to find the very best steak products in the country and I believe we have done just that!

“The number and variety of quality steak products entered into all three of the competitions was impressive, and all those that made it to the final and achieved awards were very deserving. We’re encouraging all the winners to make the most of their awards by promoting them in store, on menus and on point-of-sale material, as we know from experience that it really will have a positive impact on sales.”
