Initiative aims to spread international awareness of British food and produce
British Food Fortnight, which takes place from 19 September to 4 October, is aimed at encouraging operators and customers to get involved with British food and celebrate the country’s home-grown cuisine.
Alexia Robinson, British Food Fortnight organiser, said: “We want [British food] to be celebrated on tropical beaches, on mountain tops, in deserts and in city centres worldwide.
“We are encouraging people to organise British-themed celebrations in British embassies, in their places of work, in their homes and in their communities.”
Participants are also encouraged to share their plans and photos for British Food Fortnight on social media with hashtag #BuyBritishFood.
Enticing ex-pats
The initiative is working in conjunction with the UK Trade & Investment Department and the British Embassy to get UK companies abroad involved.
Sophie Saint, of British Corner Shop, said: “We’re helping spread the awareness of this fantastic national event on an international scale – we want British Food to be celebrated and supported worldwide.
“We know that some produce that can only be found in Britain is sorely missed by ex-pats, so we erase the distance between those abroad and Britain’s fine food.”
Operators who want to take part in British Food Fortnight can find a variety of event materials including posters and bunting online at www.britishcornershop.com.
