The "Chotch Egg" features a free-range egg, wrapped in British outdoor-reared Venison and 55% Valrhona dark chocolate, infused with Juniper berries and finished with homemade breadcrumbs.
It has been created by the London store’s executive chef Sydney Aldridge.
Creator insight
Aldridge said: “The greatest challenge was getting the combination of the chocolate and the venison just right. Initially appreciating the finest savoury Scotch Egg, the dark chocolate and Juniper slowly complements the gamey flavour perfectly, leaving you with a rich taste on the palette.”
Egg-cellent idea
Fortnum & Mason is claimed to have created the Scotch Egg in 1738 for people to snack on during long journeys.
The "Chotch Egg" will be available from 31 March to 6 April in the store’s Wine Bar and Food Hall.
Golden egg
Department store Selfridges has previously offered a Golden Goose egg which featured goose meat and was sprayed gold. It was created by Madalene Bonvini-Hamel former owners of the British Larder in Suffolk and previous winners of the Scotch Egg Challenge 2013.
Scotch Egg Challenge
The annual Scotch Egg Challenge held at the Ship at Wandsworth also features Scotch eggs with a twist. Entries to the 2014 challenge included squid and chorizo; BBQ pulled pork and chicken Caesar varieties of the pub classic.
