A Cheshire pub has been shortlisted for a Parliamentary award that recognises the most responsible businesses.

The Wheatsheaf Inn in No Man’s Heath has been nominated for the Responsible Business Champion 2015 accolade from the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group for its work for the local community, which has included a meals-on-wheels service for the elderly and apprenticeship training.

The pub has also significantly reduced its carbon footprint by using local suppliers and introducing a number of energy efficient measures.

Landlady Emma Harvey said: “It’s a great achievement to be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Marks & Spencer, Fujitsu and Sony. We’re the only small business represented.

“Being an active and social responsible part of the local community is very important to us and I’d like to thank everyone for the tremendous support they’ve shown over the past three years.”

Local MP Stephen O’Brien, who nominated the pub, said: “The Wheatsheaf Inn is a great example of how, in a national, recovering economy, good business people, with good business sense, lead innovation and improvement in the services available in vibrant communities.

The winner of the award will be announced at a Parliamentary reception, which will take place on a date yet to be confirmed after the general election.
