New pub microbrewing technology launched in UK

New technology that enables pubs to brew their own craft beer at a fraction of the cost of installing a microbrewery has been launched in the UK.

Technobrewery is a fully automated compact ‘brew kettle’ that simplifies the process and allows pubs to brew in only two hours. Licensees can select one of the ingredient packs available — for example,  a golden ale — and are then guided through the process via software and simple on-screen instructions.

The brew is then pumped into fermentation vessels and transferred to cask or bottle after seven to 14 days.

A survey of licensees by Brewers World, the company behind the technology, found that almost six in 10 said they were attracted by the high GPs that own-brewed beer can offer and would brew their own if there was a solution that fitted on their premises.

Taran Cheema, licensee of the Burlington Arms in Mayfair, London, has been trialing the kit — which is the size of a commercial oven — and said he has been impressed with the results.

“I have absolute control over the brew and it is served fresh from fermentation. I have only been brewing since December but I am already creating brilliant ales,” he said.
