More than 1,000 pubs across the UK will take part in the Redtooth Poker League, which begins this month to determine the country’s best pub poker players.

The league, which is in its ninth consecutive year, runs in four quarters during a 12-month period and culminates in four UK National finals with the best 100 amateur poker players winning a trip to the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas.

The top player will be awarded UK Pub Poker Champion and a share of the £12,000 prize money in the Vegas 100 National Final.

Redtooth said interest in the national competition is increasing, with an average of 430 new pubs joining each year, and the prize fund also continues to grow, with a total prize pool of £265,000 on offer in 2015.

The top 20 players in the event will play for £12,000 in prize money, and for the first time in the League’s history the winner will receive a £10,000 sponsorship deal and return to defend the title at next year’s event.

Martin Green, managing director of Redtooth, said: “The Redtooth Poker League has enjoyed phenomenal success over the years but this year’s League promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

“We have more than 1,000 pubs take part each year with interest in the League growing all the time. The value of prizes is also at the highest it has ever been throughout the League’s nine-year history.

“Thousands of pubs and venues across the country have benefited from hosting a Redtooth Poker tournament with the best players progressing to regional and national finals where they compete for a once in a lifetime trip to Las Vegas.

“Poker leagues offer a different dynamic to pubs and in the past they have helped attract a wide range of people to play the game within their community, bringing local people together but also benefitting landlords.”
