First canned craft cider launched by Westons

The revival in cans has reached the cider market with the launch of the first canned craft cider from H Westons & Sons.

The cider producer has created a new brand, Caple Road Cider, to tap into the consumer trend for craft and canned beer, which will come in 330ml cans.

It is named after is the road which approaches Westons site in the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle.

“Caple Rd will appeal to craft beer drinkers, as well as young professionals who seek and enjoy different world drinking experiences and for whom provenance and authenticity are key,” explained cidermaker Guy Lawrence.

The 5.2% ABV full-bodied, amber-coloured, sparkling cider is produced in small batches and then matured for up to 18-months in oak.

“We only use the finest yeast and bittersweet apple juice available to make Caple Rd, which has been designed to challenge cider-makers’ palettes, with its dark straw colour, notes of leather on the nose, and robust oaky taste,” said Lawrence.

It is being launched this month into pubs and bars across the UK.

Head of sales, Geoff Bradman, said: “The canned craft beer category has seen huge growth over the last couple of years, yet so far no one has launched a craft cider in a can. Early feedback from our research on Caple Rd has been absolutely phenomenal from both the trade and consumers, so we are delighted to be launching it this month and bringing some genuine innovation to the market.”
